Henry David Thoreau (see name pronunciation; J – May 6, ) was an American essayist, poet, and philosopher. A leading transcendentalist, he is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay "Civil Disobedience" (originally published as "Resistance to Civil Government"), an argument for disobedience to an Alma mater: Harvard College.   His grandfather had been born into slavery, he lived on the border of a segregated town, and threats of racism loomed large. His father Author: Sheldon Pearce.

Now Siddhartha considered a Middle Way between those two extremes. He remembered an experience from his childhood when his mind had settled into a state of deep peace. He saw that the path of liberation was through the discipline of mind, and he realized that, instead of starvation, he needed nourishment to build up his strength for the effort.   Kennedy drew support from lower-income whites and communities of color, from hopeful youth and disenchanted elders. Historians ponder, if he were elected, whether America might be less divided.

In what way was he a hypocrite? Is it "The all men are created equal" thing? No, it was mostly the dichotomy of the way he wrote vs the way he lived his life. [Eric Foner for the NY Times] 1 about this very book said it well, so I'll just quote him: No one embodied this contradiction more strikingly than Thomas Jefferson. Trevor surveyed attendees at a comic book convention about the distance they lived from the convention center and the type of ticket they purchased for the event. The data he gathered is shown in the two-way table below. Tickets Bought for Comic Convention Live Farther than 20 Miles from Convention Center Live within 20 Miles of Convention.
